The Spiritual Aspects Of Gambling
(continued from page 1)
Fear
Now let's talk about something that causes a lot of gamblers problems. That is fear. Fear is a strange thing in that it is like a magnet. It will attract the thing that is being feared. Once again referring to the scriptures in the book of Job most everyone is familiar with his story. He was a righteous man who had great wealth yet a series of calamities came upon him and stripped him of everything that he valued. And why did this happen to him? You might say it was because God was testing him. Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I think the main answer lies in Job's own statement when he said, "The thing I feared most has come upon me." In the story, God could not legally continue to protect Job and build a hedge around him because Job was in violation of a spiritual law. He was living his life in fear. If you read the first few verses it is explained that Job was constantly sacrificing to God on behalf of his children in case they had done something wrong and God was going to get them. He had a concept of God as being vengeful and demanding sacrifice and subservience. He didn't know the true unconditional loving merciful God that was full of grace. Therefore, he created his own reality. The God he believed in came into manifestation for him. The good news is that finally in the end of the book, Job woke up to his misconception and said to God, "I had heard of you, but now I see you." Once he realized his mistake, everything was restored to him seven times over.
You might be saying, well, that's just a story, a myth. Whether the events actually happened is not the important thing here. It is important that we understand the lessons. If you've ever developed an excessive fear of something in your life, unless you dealt with it somehow and got over it, you probably eventually experienced the thing that you were fearing. I know I have. At least I'm sure you know of family or friends who had to confront their fears one way or the other. True genuine fear must be dealt with. Either you overcome the fear or you bring that fear into your life so you meat it face to face and deal with it that way, but deal with it you will.
Fear has a very negative impact upon our lives, but it REALLY has a negative impact at the casino. Most every gambling expert is in agreement on one thing. And that is, never bet at a level that is out of your comfort zone. In other words, if your system calls for a $50 bet and you are hesitant to make it because you are thinking, Wow, that will pay my gas bill; or there goes a weeks worth of groceries, then you are outside of your comfort zone. YOU ARE BETTING IN FEAR! Anytime you are hesitant to make a bet because of the size of the bet, fear has crept in. This fear will cause you to hesitate and perhaps make mistakes. Maybe you don't make a bet that would have helped you to catch up and eventually win because of your fear. And just as probably, your fear when you place such a bet will attract the thing you fear most at that moment in time and that is losing the bet. The experts may not understand all the reasons that it is wrong to play at a higher level than you can afford, but they all do know that it leads to catastrophe. So from this standpoint, always only gamble with money that is absolutely meaningless to you. You don't care at all one way or the other whether you win it or lose it. At least you don't care from the standpoint that it will affect your financial well being.
Fear of losing alone is enough to cause you to lose. When you are afraid you are going to lose, you will rarely ever win. I have been there on several occasions. Two or three losses back to back (especially when it is impacting your livelihood) can birth a fear of losing. This can be a monster that is difficult to kill. It is this fear that is the main reason that winning begets winning and losing begets losing. When you lose, it feeds the fear that you will also lose the next session. If this fear is not starved and destroyed it will grow into a monster of epic stature. On the contrary, winning begets winning because as you win, the fear of loss is minimized. And if you win enough, the fear of loss can be destroyed altogether. Does that mean you will never lose again? Of course not. But if you no longer fear losing, it will have no ability to perpetuate itself and the losing streak will tend to end much sooner. And where there is no fear, nothing can destroy your winning attitude and your positive energy which are certain to pay strong dividends in the long run.
Gambling And Life
Gambling is life intensified and amplified. During a short period of time you experience the full gamut of emotions: winning, losing, joy, sorrow, great confidence, self-doubt and questioning, elation, and dejection. This is why it can be such an addiction to some.
You are playing with stakes that represent your life. Your money, in a way represents chunks of your life because you had to trade large portions of your time here on this physical earth to get the money you are playing with. You exchanged your life for that money so it represents your life to you. This is also a factor which induces fear because everyone has a natural built in fear of losing their life. But it is also a high because of the potential for gaining more life without actually having to exchange our precious time here to get it.
Reacting To Spiritual Circumstances And Conditions
Since man is a spirit being which inhabits a body, it stands to reason that we have spiritual feelings just like we have physical feelings. We all know what it feels like to "have our feelings hurt". When someone hurts your feelings, does your physical body literally hurt? Does your tooth ache or your physical arm throb? No. But something inside you is hurting. Perhaps you've experienced abandonment by a loved one and you have what is termed as a broken heart. Is your physical heart literally broken? No. But it is your spirit man or soul man that is experiencing this hurt. Actually, the fact that we experience spiritual emotions should prove to us that we are spiritual beings. We have the ability to distinguish spiritual feelings from physical feelings. Everyone does. These spiritual feelings must have a spiritual source. Or perhaps I should say that there has to be a spirit man there in order to feel the spiritual feelings.
Everyone has the ability to pick up on spiritual feelings if they will just learn to be sensitive to them. Haven't you experienced a sense of dread before something bad happened in your life or before you got word of something bad happening to a friend or loved one? Mothers often experience this "knowing that something is wrong", especially where their children are concerned, even though they may not yet have physically received the news. It is a very common occurrence, yet it is considered to be a phenomenon or "paranormal" because so many people do not believe in the spiritual realm.
Maybe I'm a little different, but I don't think I'm that much different, but I sometimes experience that kind of bad feeling in the pit of my stomach and an overall feeling of heaviness. I usually get this feeling when I'm about to make a mistake. You here people use the expression, "I've got a bad feeling about this." Well, this is the feeling I'm talking about. I used to be in the car business and in over 4 years of buying and selling automobiles, I only lost money on 3 vehicles. And everyone of them I had a bad feeling in my spirit before I bought them. But I let my psychological physically reasoning mind that makes decisions based upon physical circumstances and physical input over rule the warning my spirit man was trying to give. In life and in gambling, learn to be sensitive to that warning and it will save you a lot of heartache and probably a lot of money. There have been days when I was preparing to go to the casino that I got that bad feeling in the pit of my stomach (an almost sick feeling) and that heaviness came over me. If I went ahead and went to the casino and played anyhow, I think I must have lost almost every time with possibly one or two exceptions. And I believe on those occasions it was probably something else I was sensing that was wrong. Learn to be sensitive to those feelings and don't violate them. If you don't feel good about going to the casino, then don't go. Find something else to do for enjoyment. Heed the warning of your spirit.
Once you have learned your game and become proficient at it, learn to be sensitive to your feelings. If you don't feel good about making a bet, then perhaps you shouldn't make it. Also, you may eventually get to the point where you can play in a zone where you almost know what is going to happen before it happens. When this starts to happen more and more frequently and you can learn to follow those instincts without questioning them with your conscious reasoning mind, then you are on your way to some real success in the casinos. I'm not talking about being psychic, I'm just talking about being so into the game and so familiar with all aspects of it that your spirit man is making observations and calculations and tapping into elements that you aren't even physically aware of and communicating with your conscious self through feelings and intuitions.
Summing Up
I haven't communicated these things to cause you to be superstitious or to believe in superstition. I want you to understand the potential power of the spiritual forces at work everywhere including the casinos. Also, hopefully you better understand how you and all your brothers and sisters here on this earth play an integral part in the action of these forces even though we probably haven't been thinking about it or realizing it. But if you are aware of the spiritual aspects of gambling, yes and the spiritual aspects of life, you can learn to get into harmony with the spiritual laws and forces at work and be a much more successful gambler as well as being more successful in your personal life.
I (as well as you) will leave this physical world someday and all I can take with me is my knowledge and experiences, my faith, and most of all my love. The Beatles said it best when they said, "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." It is equal to, not greater than the love we make or create.
The bottom line is that ultimately it doesn't matter whether I ever place another bet in a casino or write another article or answer another question about gambling. What matters is the love I have created!
