During this period of searching, I went to Las Vegas where I paid a professional craps player to take me under his wing and teach me to win at craps. While he did give me some good pointers about gambling in general, he wasn't the best teacher in the world and as a result I didn't really learn the main things I needed to know about the game. Sure, we won all 3 sessions we played together, but when I tried to employ his methods of play later on my own, I usually lost. To this day, I'm amazed that he wins with the system he plays. As time went on, I became more determined than ever to succeed. I had never been defeated at anything I set my mind to, and I wasn't going to start now. I was also realizing that I was just as smart as any of these guys peddling these junky systems and due to my diligent study, I probably now knew more about the game than they did. I spent literally hundreds of hours collecting data and testing ideas. Although I didn't come up with any definite system that was a long term winner during this period, it was profitable because I found hundreds of things that wouldn't work. And as I studied and studied and practiced and practiced and spent untold hours standing and watching live craps play (as well as playing and mostly losing), without even realizing it I was storing information in my subconscious. Yes, though I wasn't aware of it, I was learning to read a craps table. Eventually I had a real break through or epiphany in this area, but it was one of those sudden revelations that only seem to come after much diligence and hard work.
During the course of my pursuits, I was blessed to come into contact with two other professional players who each had a big influence on me and from whom I learned a lot. From one, I received some tremendous insight on the workings of random numbers although he didn’t really realize the magnitude and importance of the knowledge he had imparted, all he knew was that this is the way things work at a craps table.
The other pro spent many hours talking to me both in person and on the phone. We played several sessions together and it was a thing of beauty watching him play. He played a craps table like Eric Clapton plays a guitar. But the unusual thing was that he didn't play any certain system, nor did he advocate one. He was just that good at reading craps tables. From that point on, that is where I concentrated my efforts because he pretty much convinced me that I was never going to find a completely mechanical craps system that would be a long term winner. I eventually became proficient enough at reading a table to pay my bills, but it was a long hard bumpy road. Successful gambling is hard work and often frustrating. But I love being my own boss and working when I want.

A few years ago I began writing a column for an international gambling newsletter, answering questions, and sharing gambling information.
